Neighbourhood Help exists in Switzerland and abroad. In the city of Zurich alone, around 1000 volunteers work in one of 13 Neighbourhood Help centres, clocking up 50 000 hours of service every year.
In the Neighbourhood Help centres, all volunteers can contribute with their talents and enthusiasm, make new contacts and share the satisfaction which comes from their work. The ‘clients’ can come with their troubles – their local Neighbourhood Help centre then sends a friendly ‘neighbour’ round. This works effectively in combating people’s increasing loneliness – there, where an immediate result is felt: at the basis of daily community life. This is a meaningful contribution towards a lively neighbourhood and city life.
In the past, each of the decentralised Neighbourhood Help centres in the city of Zurich did their own publicity. The stimulus for organising publicity together stemmed from the wish for an internet website. Volunteers from the Neighbourhood Help centres in Altstetten, Oerlikon, Wiedikon, Affoltern, Area1 and Schwamendingen then set up the Internet Work Group under the leadership of Christian Guler and worked on the content of a website.
In the meantime, a special Interest Group has been founded for the Neighbourhood Help centres of the city of Zurich to undertake their publicity work together.
All the activities of their joint publicity work are sponsored by third parties.
